Namok is my mother's name and her food is my favorite. Growing up, I was lucky enough to eat delicious home-cooked meals from her and her food set the taste standard for me. Her cooking did not always follow the traditional way, but she created her Namok cuisine. When I left South Korea and started living alone in a foreign country, I started cooking the dishes I missed. I tried to remember the food my mother had prepared for me and recreated it in my own way. Whether you are in South Korea or abroad, the form of Korean food ingredients that you cook yourself is a little different, but you can always create your own unique flavor. There is a saying, "son-mat," which means that Korean dishes are seasoned differently with the hands of the person cooking them. It often refers to the unique flavor that comes from the hard work and love of the person who prepares them. Many people, including many Koreans, say that cooking Korean food is complicated, but it is simple and healthy. It is not always necessary to follow the rules. You can make Korean food at your local farmers market with just a few essential ingredients. I created this book with the hope that Korean food will permeate your everyday life in an easy and fun way.
