Stepping on marble quarries in nature gives us energy; walking among the marbles of cemeteries pushes us to melancholy, to romanticism that reminds us that everything passes and everything stays; Contemplating marbles in archaeological sites and in museums arouses our admiration for their artistic forms, but what must be incredible is swimming or diving among marbles, in the so-called marine quarries, available for divers and swimmers in the Mediterranean.

The dream of every archaeologist will be to find ruins at the bottom of the sea and, even better, to recover and analyze them. That is also the dream of a lover of marbles, although I have doubts about whether to recover them or not, take them out of their home among corals, fish and algae. The sea is very kind, it has treated you well. Obviously, those that have been extracted have needed restoration but it has not damaged them too much. We could say that marble is so resistant and strong that it has not let Neptune deteriorate it.

Àngels Ferrer i Ballester has a degree in Art History from the University of Barcelona and a Master's in Cultural Management from the same university, and she also completed a postgraduate course in Management and Dissemination of Natural and Cultural Heritage at the University of Vic. She has worked as a journalist, cultural manager, exhibition programmer and museum guide, a job that, since she moved to Baltimore in 2009, she has ended up turning into a way of teaching Spanish to North Americans. From a very young age, she became interested in stones —from the fossils of Tavertet to the boulders on the beaches of Palamós—, a fascination that led her to become interested in geology and archaeology, and to join excavations and expeditions. He has traveled all over the world to see and step on ruins, rocks and quarries.
