Tuber or not tuber? That is our question. In this year's annual Apartment cookbook, we take Shakespeare's famous lines from Hamlet Underground and ask: What is a tuber? While previous cookbooks make direct reference to pantry staples, spices or sweets, Apartment Cookbook #8: Tuber or Not Tuber? engages readers in the "to be or not to be" of the culinary world, responding with recipes that rely on a variety of root vegetables. A fun 'Tuber Check' accompanies each recipe, gamifying the standard cookbook and introducing readers to a variety of underground delights, tuber or not.

With recipes from James Beard Award winner Corey Lee, Noma flavor scientist Arielle Johnson, royal baker Claire Ptak, Oaxacan standard-bearer Thalia Barrios García, and visual artist Motoyuki Daifu, among others, the tubers and their related stems take in the form of fresh salads, fried foods, or a cold horchata. Swiss Design Award winner Olga Prader brings the book to life with her playful illustrations, which take us deeply and delightfully underground.
